WEST SPRINGFIELD, Pa. -- Jean P. Holdson, 75, of West Springfield, Pa., died at her home Sunday evening, June 13, after a brief battle with lung cancer.

Born Oct. 15, 1934, in Indian Springs, N.C, she was the daughter of the Rev. Wesley and Mildred (Smith) Price.

She graduated from Seven Springs High School and later attended Mount Olive College in Mount Olive, N.C.

She was a West Springfield resident since 1956.

She was employed for 21 years at Brown Memorial Hospital in Conneaut, Ohio, where she was a switchboard operator and registration clerk.

Jean was a longtime member of West Springfield Baptist Church, where she served as nursery attendant.

She loved cooking, and through this love, she reached out to many others. Jean often took meals to those who were ill or in need. She was community famous for her fried chicken, coconut creme pie and peanut brittle.

She also enjoyed gardening and canning what she grew. Her greatest love, though, was always her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Chris (Brian) Griffey of West Springfield, Pa.; four sons Brian (Carol) Baum of West Virginia, Gary Holdson of Brenham, Texas, Walter (Chuppie) Holdson of West Springfield, Pa., and David (Mary Ruth) Holdson of Conneaut, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her sister, Christine DuClos of Dallas, Texas; nieces; nephews; and more distant relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul B. Holdson in 2001; a brother, Warren Price; two sisters, Evelyn Ham and Doris Shivar; and two siblings in infancy.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 17, at West Springfield Baptist Church, 13695 Ridge Road, West Springfield, Pa., with the Rev. Andrew Shields and former pastor the Rev. Ray Kush, retired, officiating. Burial will be in East Springfield Cemetery.

Friends may call at Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, Ohio, Wednesday, June 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Erie V.N.A. Hospice or Springfield Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
