DEZORA BATTLE EDWARDS

Sept. 6 1920-June 12, 2010

Ms. Dezora Battle Edwards, 89, 726 Longleaf Ave., Goldsboro, N.C., was born Sept. 6, 1920, in Wilson County to the late Alfred and Exie Battle. She departed this earthly life Saturday, June 12, 2010, at her residence.

Dezora was educated in the public schools of Wilson County.

In the year of 1942, Dezora was united in holy matrimony to Eugene Edwards. The couple lived in Wilson until 1961, then they decided to move to Goldsboro. To this union was born one son.

Dezora was a loyal and devoted wife and mother.

She was preceded in death by husband, Mr. Eugene Walter Edwards, and many other relatives.

Ms. Edwards leaves to cherish her memories a son, Jonathan Eugene Edwards; a stepson, Mr. Roy L. Edwards; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Doretha Miller (Tommy); three goddaughters, Mrs. Dorothy Kluman (Wayne), Jean Barnes and Diane Perry-Soto (Victor); one whom she loved as a daughter, Mrs. Janice Holland, her caregiver and family friend; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Battle-Jones and the Rev. Ellen Battle; special nieces, Mrs. Marshalene Thompson and Mrs. Estelle Perkins (Vance); and several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A time for visitation for Ms. Edwards will take place Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home and Cremations Inc. Services to celebrate the prolific life and legacy of Ms. Edwards will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Church of Christ Church in Black Creek.

Following the formal proceedings in the temple, Ms. Edwards' delicate vessel, along with her adored family, will be escorted to Willowdale Cemetery for interment rites.

Although Ms. Edwards could not give a farewell to those that she loved before her departure, her family can have the solace knowing that she is now resting in that great by and by, singing a song that the angels can't sing, telling her Lord and savior how she made it over.

The family is receiving compassionate and caring service from E.M. Matthews Funeral Home and Cremations Inc.
