KANNAPOLIS -- Rachel Lorene Johnson Wagner, 86, 2120 Englewood St., died at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis Saturday, May 29, 2010.

Mrs. Wagner was born Jan. 6, 1924, in Mount Holly, N.C., the daughter of the late Lawrence H. Johnson and the late Annie Mae Burris Johnson.

In addition to her parents, Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, Charles C. Wagner Jr., who died June 13, 2008; and a brother, Harley Gene Johnson; and a sister, Edith Johnson Deal.

Mrs. Wagner grew up in Landis, N.C., and graduated from Landis High School.

She had been employed with Cannon Mills Co. from 1948 to 1968 in the sewing department.

She was a member of Landis First United Methodist Church, and enjoyed gardening, cooking and in general, caring for her family.

Survivors include her son, Ronald Gene Wagner and wife, Paula, of Kannapolis; a daughter, Rebecca Wagner Stewart of Goldsboro, N.C.; four grandchildren, Jamie Stewart Ginn and David M. Stewart both of LaGrange, N.C., and Jason W. Wagner and wife, Mary, and Jeremy C. Wagner both of Kannapolis; two sisters, Ruby J. Thomas of Baltimore, Md., and Kathryn J. Hooper of Kannapolis.

The funeral service for Mrs. Wagner will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, at Whitley's Funeral Home chapel, conducted by chaplain Ric Durham. Burial will take place at Carolina Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 before the service. At other times, they will be at the family home.
