GERALD CLAY KORNEGAY

MOUNT OLIVE -- Gerald Clay Kornegay Sr., 63, of McColl, S.C., a native of Mount Olive, died Saturday at McLeod Hospital in Florence, S.C.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Tyndall Funeral Home, with interment following in Maplewood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home during the hour prior to the service, and at other times at the home of Bobby and Janet Kornegay, 429 Ralph Dail Road, Mount Olive.

Gerald was the son of the late Byard Grant Kornegay and Hazel Smith Kornegay.

After his being reared near Mount Olive, he had resided in Fayetteville and Laurinburg, N.C., Bennettsville, S.C., and at the time of his passing, McColl, S.C.

He had served in the National Guard, had enjoyed a career at Campbell Soup Co. and also had worked in insurance sales and management.

His surviving family includes his siblings, Byard Grant Kornegay Jr. and wife, Janet, of Mount Olive, Linda Kay Lane and husband, Charles, of Minnesott Beach, Lorraine Ivey Kornegay (widow of deceased brother, Jimmy Kornegay) of Mount Olive, Mary Hazel Manuel and husband, William, of Dudley and Ricky Kornegay of Mount Olive; an aunt, Teresa Kornegay Marshburn of Wilmington; his stepmother, Jo Ann O. Kornegay of Mount Olive; his former wife, the mother of his son and a very close friend, Katherine Kornegay of Laurinburg; and his beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and brother, Mr. Kornegay was preceded in death by his only son, Gerald Clay Kornegay II, and also by his twin, Cheryl Kay Kornegay, who died as an infant.
