Thad Allen "T.A." Bowen passed into the portals of glory in the early morning hours of Thursday.

Visitation will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Mays Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 3831 U.S. 117 alternate south in Dudley. A graveside service will be at 3 p.m.

He was born Dec. 13, 1919, in Greene County, the son of the late Charles Lawrence and Mae Belle Bowen.

He served in the United States Navy as an aircraft mechanic on the USS Roosevelt Aircraft Carrier during World War II. While in the Navy, he married Mary Dail Rouse from Snow Hill. They were married for 651/2 years.

They bought a farm in Wayne County, where he worked hard in his younger years. They had three sons during that time. In the last years, he enjoyed a successful business with auctions, flea markets and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Bowen; a brother, Chester Bowen and his wife, Norma; three sons, Jimmy Elton Bowen and wife, Lois, Thomas "Rodney" Bowen and wife, Lynora, and Edwin "Lee" Bowen; five grandsons, Richard Allen Bowen, Joshua Lee Bowen, Ryan Thomas Bowen, Jimmy "Michael" Bowen and wife, Chelsea, and Daniel "Allen" Bowen and wife, Jennifer; five great-grandchildren, Emma Katherine Bowen, Karah Elizabeth Bowen, Josiah Sullivan Bowen, Jonah Michael Bowen and Luke Ellis Bowen; and numerous nephews and nieces, including a special nephew, Charles Gardner and wife, Terri.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mays Chapel Church.

Arrangements are by Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro, where condolences may be posted at www.howellfuneral.com.
