CHARLES L. SAPP

ENID, Okla. -- A funeral service for Dr. Charles L. Sapp, 81, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church chapel, with the Rev. Susan Southall, the Rev. Doug McKinney, the Rev. Shane Sapp and Charles Michael Sapp officiating.
Charles was born to James Leon Sapp and Ida (Miller) Sapp March 23, 1929, in Oklahoma City, Okla., and died Wednesday.
Charles graduated from Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City.
On June 6, 1948, he married Ynette Elizabeth Culley at Central Avenue Free Will Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, where he attended OBU and OCU. They then moved to Nashville, where he attended Free Will Baptist Bible College.
After school he went to be a pastor at First Free Will Baptist Church in Byran, Texas, for five years. While in Byran he attended Texas A&M, where he graduated and earned his teaching degree.
In 1958, they moved to Richmond, Va., where he attended Union Theological Seminary.
They then moved to Winterville, where he was a pastor at Reedy Branch Free Will Baptist Church.
After a short time in Winterville they moved to Mount Olive, where he taught religion at Mount Olive College for nine years.
The family then moved to Oklahoma City, where he taught social sciences at South Oklahoma City Community College and was an adjunct professor at OCU.
Dr. Sapp was a full-time minister starting in 1975 at McFarland United Methodist Church in Norman.
He then ministered at the following churches: Bethany United Methodist Church in Enid for three years; Highland Park United Methodist Church in Stillwater; Perry United Methodist Church in Perry, Okla.; Village United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City; and Texoma United Methodist Church in Texoma.
He then retired in 1989 when they moved to Enid.
He was an active member of First United Methodist Church and Enid Men's Garden Club, taught Sunday school and filled in at various churches in and around Enid. Charles lived at the United Methodist Home for six months and then the last four years in Greenbrier Nursing Home.
Charles lived his life serving the Lord and now has gone home. He loved his family, teaching, preaching and playing the piano.
He is survived by his wife, Ynette; a son, Charles Michael Sapp and his wife, Marilyn, of Muse, Okla.; a daughter, Lynette McKinney and her husband, the Rev. Doug, of Parker, Colo.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ada Wadsworth of Oklahoma City and Juanita Adams of Dallas, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jimmy Sapp; and an infant daughter, Gail Paulette.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to First United Methodist Church.
