Carlyle Owens, 75, passed away Thursday morning at his home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with pastor Alan Lamm officiating.

Carlyle was born in Robeson County Oct. 2, 1934, to the late John Gary Owens Sr. and Dora Jean Horne Owens.

He retired as an auto mechanics teacher with Princeton High School.

Carlyle was a member of Casey's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, Sunday school superintendent and teacher for many years as well as the youth director.

He served his country in the United States Navy.

Carlyle is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carolyn Bradshaw Owens; his daughters, Jerri Lynn Owens of Goldsboro and Robyn Owens Braswell and husband, Terry, of Princeton; his sisters, Doris Huffman and husband, Donald, of Durham, Joyce Tompkins and husband, Jim, of Goldsboro and Candy Smith and husband, Jay, of LaGrange; his sister-in-law, Peggy Owens of Castle Hayne; brother-in-law, Joe Weede of Fuquay-Varina; and his two grandchildren, Ashley Braswell and Carson Braswell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Gary Owens Jr., and his sister, Mary Thomas Weede.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534, or the Carlyle Owens Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of Princeton High School, P.O. Box 38, Princeton, N.C., 27569.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 5 to 6 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and following the service. The family will also receive friends at the home.
