S. KEITH WALLER

MOUNT OLIVE -- Stephen Keith Waller Sr., 86, of 911 Waller Road, died Friday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at Tyndall Funeral Home with the Rev. Leland Heath and the Rev. Bobby Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Waller, a well-known farmer of the Smith Chapel community, was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a charter member of the Smith Chapel Volunteer Fire Department where he was a former chief and had served in various other capacities. He was a longtime member of Smith Chapel United Methodist Church, where in years past he had served on numerous committees and had held various offices. He had been a district supervisor with the Wayne County Soil and Water Conservation and was just recently presented an award for 35 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 66 years, Gertrude Farmer Waller of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Cathy Waller of Mount Olive; a daughter, Amy Waller Evans of Wilmington; another daughter-in-law, Jan Waller of Mount Olive; three sisters, Eunice Waller Whitfield and Katrina Waller Nunn, both of Mount Olive, and Theria Waller McPhail of Goldsboro; six grandchildren, Angie Waller and Bob Toney of Mount Olive, Denise W. Mason and husband, Lee, of Goldsboro, Keith Waller and wife, Ginger, of Mount Olive, Stephenie W. Thompson and husband, Scot, of Mount Olive, James Evans and Jenna Evans, both of Wilmington; four great-grandchildren, Reagan Waller, Hayden Waller, Daniel Thompson and Matthew Thompson; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Waller of Mississippi, and Roslyn Waller of New York; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Keith Waller Jr.; his parents, James Webster and Callie Waters Waller; four brothers, Robert Waller, Truman Waller, Dr. Coy Waller, and Milton Waller; and two sisters, Ellen Waller Best and Gaynelle Waller Smith.

The Waller family will be receiving friends today from 5 until 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, and at other times at the home.

Keith Waller embraced life, his fellowman, and his family with a smile and a loving heart. He will be dearly missed. He would wish to be remembered for having been a loving husband, father, PaPa, and brother, and as a friend to all.
