EUREKA -- Irene Pate Stafford died Tuesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center with her family by her side.

The funeral was to be held today at 2 p.m. at Mount Nelson Baptist Church in Eureka. Interment will be at H. D. Lancaster Cemetery in Pikeville. The family received friends an hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.

Mrs. Stafford was the daughter of the late Percie Lancaster Pate and the late Joseph Wheeler Pate.

She was a member of Mount Nelson Baptist Church.

Surviving are her daughter, Betty Stafford Corbett of Eureka; grandchildren, Nelson Stafford of Burgaw and Kelley Corbett Hill of Eureka; three great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Pate Kirby (Mahlon) of Lucama; brothers, John Pate (Dot) of Goldsboro and Jarvis "Pete" Pate (Jean) of Kinston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Martin Stafford; and her siblings Eva Pate Wooten, Martha Pate Weaver, Brunton Pate and Lloyd G.. Pate.
