Joseph Grady Sr., 89, formerly of Goldsboro, passed away Saturday at Sampson Regional Medical Center.
Funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, with the Rev. Patrick Muston officiating. Committal will be at Wayne Memorial Park.
He was the son of the late Anson A. and Sallie Lewis Grady.
Mr. Grady was a World War II United States Marine Corp veteran and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds during combat action in Okinawa, Japan.
Mr. Grady was a member of Baker Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Post in Benson, V.F.W. Post 9959 in Mount Olive and the Moose Lodge in Clinton, and had worked for Burlington Industries.
Mr. Grady is survived by two daughters, Jo Carol Grady Dowless of Charlotte and Sara Elizabeth Grady Zeppelin and husband, Tim, of Goldsboro; three sons, Joseph Grady Jr. and wife, Anita, of Charlotte, Tony Grady and special friend, Cathy Jernigan, of Mount Olive and Scott Grady and wife, Jamie, of Mount Olive; the mother of his children, Nan Grady Sutton; a brother, Bernice "Ted" Grady of Las Vegas, Nev.; and three grandchildren, Kelly Dowless, Anthony Grady and Jenny Leigh Grady.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles Grady; two brothers, A.J. and Ernest Grady; and two sisters, Thelma Teachey and Josephine Feddeman.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
