Thomas Gene Lane, 64, formerly of Mount Olive, passed away Tuesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family. Before his declining health, Thomas had been living in Texas.

Thomas was born in Wayne County on September 26, 1945, to the late George Collins Lane and Elma Martin Lane and was a 1963 graduate of Brogden High School. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was the recipient of the Purple Heart. Thomas was employed as an electrical superintendent with the MMR Group. He was a member of Salem Advent Christian Church in Mount Olive and attended Falling Creek Baptist Church in Grantham. Thomas will be remembered for his zest for life and will be missed by many friends and family.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Falling Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Billy Webb and pastor Michael Malpass officiating. Interment will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Falling Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors.

Thomas is survived by his daughter, Tracy L. Edwards and husband, Mike of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Joshua and Justin; the mother of his daughter and his long-time friend, Phyllis Kornegay Lane of Goldsboro; his sister, Lois Malpass and husband, Alex of Mount Olive; and his sister-in-law, Catherine Lane of Goldsboro. He is also survived by his nephews, Eddie Davis, Jeffrey Davis, Stanley Malpass and Michael Malpass; his many cousins including a special cousin, Sandra Thompson; and his extended family, Margaret Kornegay, Libby & Pete Parks and Diane Mozingo, all of Goldsboro.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ernestine Davis, and his brothers, Delbert Lane and Willard Lane.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Falling Creek Baptist Church, 498 Falling Creek Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.

The family will receive friends Thursday following the service in the fellowship hall at Falling Creek Baptist Church and other times at the home of Tracy and Mike Edwards, 634 Deer Acres Drive, Goldsboro.
