NEWARK, Del. -- Arnold Franklin Stanton Jr., 76, passed away Sunday at Delaware Hospice in Milford, Del., following a lengthy illness.

Friends may visit with the family Thursday at Strano and Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road in Newark, Del., from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by a service in celebration of Mr. Stanton's life at 2 p.m.

Mr. Stanton, son of the late Arnold Franklin Stanton Sr. and the late Eva Crawford Stanton of Goldsboro, was a graduate of Goldsboro High School, American University and Delaware State University's graduate school of social work.

A psychotherapist, Mr. Stanton was owner of Counseling Associates and a founder of the Institute for the Development of Human Resources, and he devoted many years of his early career to vocational rehabilitation and education.

Treasured by friends and family, he is survived by two beloved daughters, Valerie Stanton Smith (Thomas) of Wilmington, Del., and Sharon "Shay" Stanton Shwahla (Gary) of Pt. Pleasant Beach, N.J.; sister, Janet Stanton Keith of Columbia, S.C.; brother, Thomas Hollowell Stanton IV (Donna) of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren, Gavin Stanton Shwahla and Sara Leah Shwahla of Pt. Pleasant Beach, N.J., and Jack Thomas Smith and Eva Katherine Smith of Wilmington, Del.; nephew, Thomas Hollowell Stanton V of Cincinnati, Ohio; niece, Catherine Stanton Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio; four great-nephews; a great-great-nephew; a great-great-niece; and many cousins.
