Jessie Woodard Parnell, 82, passed away Sunday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.

Funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Frasher and the Rev. Worth Worley officiating. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

Jessie was born in Johnston County Oct. 3, 1927, to the late William and Estelle Wilkins Woodard.

She was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

Jessie will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.

Jessie is survived by her husband of 641/2 years, Edward Paul Parnell; her daughters, Judy Whitley and husband, Earl, of Pikeville and Brenda Hinnant and husband, Jim, of Goldsboro; her son, Kenneth Parnell of Goldsboro; her sisters, Essie Smith of Goldsboro, Ann Giddings of Goldsboro and Linda Shaver (Dick) of Apex; her brothers, Layton Woodard (Frances) of Atlanta, Ga., Elwood Woodard (Naomi) of Roanoke Rapids, Leamon Woodard (Jean) of Princeton and Harold Lee Woodard of Princeton; seven grandchildren, Lynn Jackson, Robby Jackson and Cindy Jackson-Baker of Atlanta, Ga., Brad Hinnant of Goldsboro, Jennifer Boatright of Greenville, S.C., Melissa Sugg of Goldsboro and Kenni Nicole Hilburn of Wilson; six great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Gladys Woodard of Princeton; and brother-in-law, Donald Parnell and wife, Mildred, of Goldsboro.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Melvin Woodard.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530, or Grace Baptist Church, 1715 Royall Ave., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at her residence, 909 N. Audubon Ave. in Goldsboro.
