MOUNT OLIVE -- Doris Witherington Holmes, 78, died Sunday afternoon at her home at 626 Indian Springs Road.
Graveside funeral rites will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Par, with the Rev. James Spencer officiating.
Mrs. Holmes was the widow of George S. Holmes and had attended the Mount Olive Free Will Baptist Church. She assisted her late husband in the operation of George S. Holmes Grocery Store and George S. Holmes Used Cars.
She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Holmes Pabon of Mount Olive; a granddaughter, Larissa Pabon of Mount Olive; a son-in-law, Nelson Pabon of Mount Olive; two sisters-in-law, Maggie Wither-ington and Annie Mae Sautter, both of Mount Olive; a brother-in-law, Milton Holmes of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Holmes was preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Mamie Martin Witherington; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill Witherington, Wilbert and Beulah Witherington and Christine Holmes Murphey; and a brother-in-law, Harvey Holmes.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Tyndall Funeral Home. At other times, they will be at the residence.
