Deacon Marvin Lee Artis, 71, 700 W. Walnut St., passed from labor to reward Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
His life's service to God and mankind will be celebrated Wednes-day at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, with Bishop Alton Smith officiating. His mortal remains will be laid to rest at Wayne Memorial Park.
In his early years, he was employed as a health care technician at Cherry Hospital. Mr. Artis later served the city of Goldsboro as a police officer then moved on to become a truck driver for Barnes Truckline in Wilson, after which he became the owner and operator of M&M Trucking.
He leaves to mourn his wife of more than 50 years, Mildred Edwards Artis of the home; his children, Stanley M. Artis of Cheverly, Md., and Vernestine Artis Taylor of Hope Mills; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his siblings, James (Doris Gene) Artis and Issac (Joyce) Artis, both of Fremont, Charles (Lenora) Artis of Aurora, Colo., David Artis, Thomas Ray Artis of Maryland, Carolyn Artis of Lundby, Md., and Annie (Kenneth) Mitchell of Youngsville; sisters-in-law, Alma Hopkins of Goldsboro and Verona (Robert) Chislom of Snow Hill; brothers-in-law, Herman King, Scott Edwards Jr. of Kinston and Fredrick Edwards of Goldsboro; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in the silent halls of death by a son, Marvin Artis Jr.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 7 p.m. with the family present to receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at McIntyre Funeral Home Ministries and Florist of Goldsboro.
The family will receive friends at other times at the residence, where they will also assemble in preparation for the funeral cortege.
