CALYPSO -- Billy Ralph Matthews died at home Tuesday after a lengthy battle with declining health.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Faison Cemetery in Faison, with the Rev. Chris Currie officiating, and military honors will be presented.
Mr. Matthews, 60, was a veteran of the United States Army. He had been an employee of Boling Co.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Odom Matthews; his mother, Mildred Hollingsworth Matthews of Mount Olive; a daughter, Megan Matthews of the home; a son, Gary Matthews of West Virginia; a stepdaughter, Jenny Roberts of Winterville; a stepson, Kelly Anderson of Michigan; a sister, Peggy Roberts of Clinton; and five grand-children.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vaden Matthews, and a brother, Gary Lee Matthews.
Visitation for family and friends will be tonight from 6 to 8 at Tyndall Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence.
The family welcomes flowers and they ask that any memorial donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45250.
