MOUNT OLIVE -- Alonzo Donald Pate, 71, 146 North Duplin School Road, died Wednesday morning at Wake Medical Center.

Private services will be held at a later date.

He was the son of the late Alonzo and Hettie Pate and was married to Iris U. Pate.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Lynn Pate, Denise Pate, Janet Pate-Peedin and husband, Steve, and Don Pate and wife, Debbie; grandchildren, Blake Herring and fiancée, Kristen Knowles, Alyssa Herring, Casey Pate, Alonna Pate, Trey Pate and Sterling Grice; nieces and nephews, Robin Pate-Edwards, Lee Pate, Keith Pate, Larry Outlaw, Leigh Ann Underhill, Dave Underhill, Susie Sweitzer, Rob Faulk and Jamie Underhill; and special sister-in-law, Helen Jackson.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Hinson, and two brothers, Robert Pate and Albert Outlaw.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 3015 S. Memorial Drive, Suite A, Greenville, N.C., 27834, or North Duplin Dixie Youth, 196 McNeill Road, Faison, N.C., 28341.
