WALTER W. DAVIS

WARSAW -- Walter Wayne Davis, 72, departed peacefully Saturday in the comfort of his home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Unity United Methodist Church, where Mr. Davis was a longtime member. Burial will follow at Devotional Gardens.

Wayne was born to the late Walter Stevens Davis and Maude Anna Taylor Davis of Duplin County. He is preceded in death by one sister, Pearl Stevens Cotton.

Surviving Mr. Davis is his longtime friend and wife of 46 years, Wanda Gail Jackson Davis. Also surviving are six children, Sharon Davis Webb and husband, Bruce, Shirley Davis-Bryant, Shelva Davis Carper and husband, Mark, Stephen Wayne Davis and wife, Beth Benson Davis, Walter Stuart Davis and wife, Tammy Smith Davis, Sharlette Davis Chestnutt and husband, David.

Mr. Davis was known as "Daddy Wayne" to 10 grandchildren, Johnathan and Alex Webb, Anne Baker Bryant and father, Joseph, Samantha Carper, J.W. and Ethan Davis, Jackson Davis, Thom, Gracie and Lily Chestnutt, as well as numerous others. Wayne also leaves behind two sisters, Mary Grey Best and Ruby Cashwell, both of Virginia Beach, Va.; four nieces; and 11 nephews.

The family will receive visitors at Community Funeral Home of Warsaw Monday from 7 until 9 p.m.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to 3HC Hospice and his special aides, Linda Wells and Cynthia Smith.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Unity United Methodist Church, c/o Rachel Holland, 126 Holland Farm Lane, Warsaw, N.C. 28398.
