Died Aug. 28, 2009

Harry Ivey, 84, passed away on Friday afternoon surrounded by his family.

A service to celebrate his life will be held today, Aug. 30, 2009, at 3 p.m. at New Hope Friends Church, with Pastor Bill Garner officiating. A private interment will be held at the Wilson Family Cemetery.

Mr. Ivey, a lifelong resident of Wayne County, served in the United States Navy during World War II as an aviation machinist. Upon returning from the War, he pursued a career in agriculture.

He was married to Mollie Ruth Wilson Ivey of Goldsboro for 62 years. She precedes him in death, having died earlier this year. He is also preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Thedosia Ivey, Florence Ivey, Sarah Ivey Taylor, Doris Ivey Stewart and brother, Charles W. Ivey Jr.

Mr. Ivey is survived by his sons, Ted Emery Ivey and wife, Jewel, of Goldsboro and Robert Wilson Ivey and wife, Donna, of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Harriet Ruth Ivey of Goldsboro, Esther Ivey Nagypal and husband, Bela, of Raleigh, Emery Donald Ivey and wife, Meghann, of Goldsboro, and Lydia Marlowe Ivey of Goldsboro; and his great-grandchildren, Mollie Ruth Ivey and Taylor Samantha Sledge; his sister, Adele Ivey Carr and brothers, Kivett Ivey and William S. Ivey; and many nieces and nephews. In addition, Mr. Ivey had a special family that includes Joseph Baker, who survives Mr. Ivey, and David Baker, who preceded him in death.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope Friends Church, 4451 East U.S. 70 Hwy., Goldsboro, N.C. 27534.

The family will greet friends today following the service at New Hope Friends Church and other times at his home, 314 N.C. 111 South, Goldsboro.
