Paul Braxton Sullivan, 86, 162 Stoney Hill Road, died Thursday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Sullivan will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gary M. Bailey and the Rev. Barry Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Wayne County, he was the son of Murray Allen and Lydia Boyette Sullivan.

Mr. Sullivan was a retired truck driver, a member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church and a member and past president of Faith Sunday School Class. He was a charter member and honorary member of Belfast Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Sullivan served his country in the 102nd Infantry, United States Army, in France and Germany during World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Hazel Howell Sullivan; daughters, Nancy S. Pilkington of Goldsboro and Paula S. Butts and husband, Dr. Elvin R. Butts, of Dunn; grandchildren, Trevor E. Pilkington and wife, Teresa, of Goldsboro, Trent E. Pilkington and Thomas S. Pilkington of Goldsboro, Ray A. Butts and wife, Nina, and Paul C. Butts of Dunn; and great-grandchildren, Peyton L. Pilkington and Courtney A. Butts.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Sullivan was preceded in death by his stepmother, Myrtie Williams Sullivan; his son-in-law, Terry E. Pilkington; and his brother, Clifton L. Sullivan.

Pallbearers will be Trevor E. Pilkington, Trent E. Pilkington, Thomas S. Pilkington, Ray A. Butts, Paul C. Butts and Lester H. Howell Jr.

The family requests memorials be made to Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church, 752 Stoney Creek Church Road, Goldsboro, NC, 27534.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at Seymour Funeral Home.
