VASS -- Callie Powell Wooten, 79, died peacefully Sunday at First Health in Pinehurst after several years of declining health.

Funeral services were held today at 2 p.m. at Pikeville Cemetery in Pikeville, with the Rev. David Grissom, the Rev. David Beck and the Rev. David Hollowell officiating.

A reception celebrating Mrs. Wooten's life followed the service at Mr. Carmel United Methodist Church in Pikeville.

She was formerly of Robbins and was the owner/operator of Little Angels Happy Playschool. She was also the former nursery director of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Southern Pines.

Mrs. Wooten was an excellent homemaker. Her hobbies included floral arranging, home decorating and doll collecting.

Survivors are daughters, Sue Wooten Grissom and her husband, David, of Yanceyville, Christie Wooten Allen and her husband, Larry, of Whispering Pines, and Charline Wooten Beck and her husband, David, of Smithfield; grandchildren, Kellie Grissom Ciferni and husband, Joseph, of Creedmoor, Susanna Grissom Herzberg and husband, Jason, of Graham, Jaclyn Beck Kennedy and husband, Billy, of Seagrove, Lee Wooten Allen of Chapel Hill, Kelci Beck of Greenville and Shelby Beck of Smithfield; great-grandchildren, Paige and David Ciferni of Creedmoor and Will and Carly Kate Kennedy of Seagrove; and her beloved pet poodle, Matilda.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Charles Wesley Wooten; brothers, Will, John and Kenneth Powell; sisters, Edna (Dot) Millard and Pat Willouby; and her mother, Essie Davis Powell.

Visitation for friends was held Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home in Star.
