JEWEL S. CHESTNUT

Jewel Sauls Chestnut, 81, went to be with her Lord this morning at Carolina East Hospice Care Center in Kenansville following a lingering illness.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with Dr. Tom Harper officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Jewel was born in Wayne County on Nov. 6, 1927, to the late Wyatt C. Sauls and Eva Mae West Sauls.

She was a loving wife and mother, who was faithful in caring for her family. Jewel was a register nurse and had retired from Cherry Hospital. She was an active and devoted member of Second Baptist Church, until she became a resident of Golden Years Nursing Home in Falcon.

Jewel is survived by her husband, James Arnold Chestnut Sr.; her daughters, Elizabeth C. Holloman and husband, Bruce, of Princeton and Emily C. High and husband, Lewis, of Dunn; her sons, Jay Chestnut and wife, LaVerne, of Princeton, Mike Chestnut of Smithfield and Stan Chestnut and wife, Edith, of Rosewood; her sisters, Margaret Anderson of Goldsboro and Patsy White and husband, Gary, of Goldsboro; her brother-in-law, Bud Best of Goldsboro; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Van Benthuysen and Eva Best.

The family would like express a special thanks to Cynthia Lee, FNP, and also the staff of the Golden Years Nursing Home in Falcon, especially Brenda Honeycutt and Melissa Hobbs, for the love and care given Mrs. Chestnut during her period of declining health.

The family is especially grateful to daughter Emily Hill who has cared for their mother for the past two years.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
