Earl Lamar Radford, 77, of Sparger Road died Friday at Duke Medical Center. He was predeceased by his mother, Blanche Radford Forrest; father, Troy Radford; and sister, Doris Rackley.

Services will be held Monday, July 6, at 11 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, Durham. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Martha McLean and the Rev. Leonard Doucette will officiate.

He was born in Wayne County, graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1951 and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was awarded two purple hearts for wounds received during that time. He attended Duke University School of Radiology Technology. After graduation he was employed in the Department of Radiology at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Durham for 35 years, retiring in 1987. He was a long time member of Asbury United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Marvin Reep Sunday School Class. He was an avid N.C. State Wolfpack fan -- especially their football program -- as well as a lifelong New York Yankees fan.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Deane Weeks Radford. Also surviving are two sons, David L. Radford and wife, Brenda, of Durham, Steve Radford of Wake Forest and daughter, Robin R. King and husband, Rod, of Durham. Surviving are six grandchildren, Ashleigh R. Dippolito and husband, Brett, of Benson, Michael Radford and Caitlin King of Durham, Joshua, Jacob and Amanda Radford of Wake Forest; one great-grandchild, Ryan Dippolito of Benson; a sister, Mildred Radford Cathey and husband, Cliff, of Tampa, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews and extended family members.

Visitation will be held today, July 5, from 6 unitl 8 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home, Durham. Pallbearers will be Michael Radford, Joshua Radford, Clarence Hill, Bob Hinton, Randy Bell and Jimmy Pulley. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Marvin Reep Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 806 Clarendon St., Durham, NC 27705.
