ZULA B. BAIN

Zula Blackwell Bain, 92, died Monday at Sylvia's House Hospice of Marion County, Fla.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Glenn Phillips Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Willowdale Cemetery.

Born in Sumter County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late John A. and Maude Spence Blackwell. She was the wife of the late George Edgar Bain for 59 years.

A resident of Goldsboro since 1943, she was a member of First Baptist Church, where she served on the finance board and the board of deacons and was a member of the Fidelis-Dorcas Sunday school class.

She worked at the Heritage Gift Shop in Goldsboro for 12 years. As a parent, she was active in the PTA (serving as president at Walnut Street School) and served as a den mother with the Boy Scouts.

Over the years, she served on many non-profit organizations, such as the Goldsboro Woman's Club (past president), Salvation Army Advisory Board, the board of trustees at Wayne County Memorial Hospital, and was a charter member of the Wayne County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Mrs. Bain is survived by her daughter, Georgia B. Reese (and Frank) of Wilmington; her son, John David Bain (and Lola) of Silver Springs, Fla.; grandchildren, John G. Getsinger Jr. (and Tina), Laura L. Getsinger and George R. Bain; and two great-grandchildren, Bryce Getsinger and Madison Getsinger.

Flowers are welcome and memorial contributions may be directed to First Baptist Church, 125 S. John St., Goldsboro, 27530.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
