MOUNT OLIVE -- William H. "Bill" Bunch, 69, 700 W. Steele St., died Wednesday after a courageous six-year battle with lung cancer.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tyndall Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service, and other times at the residence.

A private family burial service will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.

Mr. Bunch was born May 9, 1939, in Chowan County to the late Joseph Haywood Bunch and Emma H. Bunch. His early business career was in the banking industry for 18 years serving as branch manager for Bank of North Carolina in Mount Olive in the 1970s. For the past 28 years, he owned and operated B & B Home Improvements.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jean Bunch of the home; three sons, David Bunch and wife, Kim, of Goldsboro, Bruce Bunch and wife, Darlene, of Edenton and Keith Bunch and wife, Kim, of Goldsboro.

In addition, he was adored by eight grandchildren. He also has two surviving sisters, Janet B. Bean and husband, Richard, of Cherry Hill, N.J., and Sandra B. Walton and husband, Lee, of Greenville.

The family extends a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Atkins and his entire staff at Southeastern Medical Oncology Center for their loving and special care.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C., 27834.
