LINWOOD E. JONES

MOUNT OLIVE -- Linwood E. Jones, 83, of 2336 Garner's Chapel Road, died Friday night at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive with burial following in the John Blaney Williams Family Cemetery near the home.

Mr. Jones was a retired farmer and was a member of Daly's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II and he was an avid fan of the Carolina Tar Heels.

Preceded in death by his wife of over 61 years, Louvenia Williams Jones on Dec. 28, 2008, he is survived by their children, Mack E. Jones and wife, Joan, Jimmy R. Jones and wife, Debbie, and Pattie "Susie" Jones and husband, Bobby Poythress, all of Mount Olive; grandchildren, Robert L. Jones and wife, Erica, of Pink Hill, David M. Jones and wife, Marie, Donna J. Williams and husband, Jonathan, William R. Jones and wife, April, and Jon-Blaney Jones, all of Mount Olive; five great-grandchildren, Brooke Jones, Gage Williams, Waylon Jones, David Earl Jones, and Daniel Jones; a brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Dunn Allen "Bud" and Dot Jones of Smithville, Tenn.; another sister-in-law, Alyce Jones of Kinston; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his beloved wife, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents, Bithon Allen Jones and Minnie Frizzelle Jones; his brothers, Barney, Wayne, Raymond, Jack, Esque, Alfred, and Bithon Allen Jones Jr., and sisters, Leona J. White, Lenoir J. Bridgers, Sadie J. Grant, Amanda J. Price, and Mable "Sis" J. Creel.

Memorial gifts may be made to Daly's Chapel F.W.B. Church, 6138 Daly's Chapel Road, Seven Springs, N.C. 28578, or Alzheimer's Association of Eastern Carolina, 400 Oberlin Road, Suite 220, Raleigh, N.C. 27605.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 7 until 9 p.m. and at other times at the residence.
