Died April 21, 2006

Anne Exum Hinnant, 85, of Fremont, died Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service was held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Fremont United Methodist Church. The Rev. Martin Armstrong officiated.

Mrs. Hinnant was born in Wayne County to the late John Burt Exum Jr. and Mae Rose Exum. She graduated from Fremont Graded School in 1937 and from Greensboro College with a double major in speech and dramatic art and minors in English and French. She taught English and French in Thomasville from 1941 until 1942. Mrs. Hinnant was active in Fremont United Methodist Church and was a circle leader for many years. She served as president of the Fremont Garden Club and participated in the Fremont Daffodil Festival.

She is survived by her husband, D. Frank Hinnant; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Emy Hinnant of Wilson and David and Ellen Hinnant of Raleigh; one daughter and son-in-law, Andy and Sara Diane Baldwin of Murrell's Inlet, S.C.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and one sister, Jean Exum Proctor of Wilson.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Royall Exum and John Burt Exum.

The family received friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the memorial service.
