DORIS K. HUGHES

PIKEVILLE -- Mrs. Doris Kight Hughes, 80, of 103 Ham St., died Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Hughes was born in Currituck County, N.C., on July 19, 1925, to the late Enoch Lucian Knight and Grace Garrington Knight.

She was the widow of James Willie Hughes Sr. Mrs. Hughes had worked in the cafeteria at Goldsboro High School for several years. She was a wonderful homemaker and mother. She enjoyed her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies were quilting, gardening and cooking.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Dan Pate, Dr. Rev. Fred Clarke and the Rev. Gerald Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Edgecombe Memorial Park in Tarboro, N.C.

Mrs. Hughes is survived by her children, James Hughes Jr. and wife, JoAnn, of Nashville, N.C., Bo Hughes and wife, Marlene, of Goldsboro, "Star" Baker and husband, Doug, of Goldsboro, Patty Marie Pate and husband, Dan, of Princeton, Robert Hughes and wife, Kathy, of Raleigh and Peenie Grace Walker and husband, Gerald, of Abilene, Texas. She is also survived by her sisters, Thelma Hammitt of Norfolk, Va., Marie Berry of Shawboro, N.C., and Erlean Wilson of Woodville, N.C.; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Myron Dennis Hughes.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 until 6 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Doug and Star Baker, 148 Perkins Road, Goldsboro.
