Mary Lane Tucker Pate, 74, died in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family on Friday, March 3, 2006 after a year long battle with cancer.

Mrs. Pate graduated from Whitakers High School and the Woman's College of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and taught elementary school in Goldsboro, then Raleigh, before returning to Goldsboro as a homemaker and mother.

Mary Lane devoted her life to her husband, her children and her grandchildren. She also served on many committees at First Presbyterian Church, including her favorites, the Flowers and Kitchen committees. She was a member of the Goldsboro Garden Club and served as den mother for her sons in Cub Scouts.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, J. Mike Pate, Jr.; two sons, J. Mike Pate III and wife, Lee of Raleigh and their children, Jason and Kathleen, and George Timothy Pate of Goldsboro and his and Gayle Pate's children, Jessica and Christina; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Pate was preceded in death by her parents, George F. and Nell C. Tucker; her brother, George F. Tucker, Jr. of Zebulon, and her sister, Nell Tucker Brock of Winston-Salem.

A service to celebrate her life will be held Monday, March 6, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel. A private entombment will be held after the service.

The family will receive friends Sunday, March 5, 2006 (today) from 7 until 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
