Bernard Elijah Cox, 80, of 826 Harper House Road, died Thursday while farming near his home in Four Oaks.

The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Selah Christian Church in the Grantham community. The Rev. Patrick Muston will officiate. Burial will follow in the Cox Family Cemetery.

Mr. Cox was born in Johnston County and was the son of the late Bedford Cox and Mittie Grantham Cox. He was a farmer in Johnston County and served on the board of directors for Bentonville Fire Department for 20 years. He was a member of Selah Christian Church, where he served on a number of committees, and was also an active member of the Woodmen of the World.

Mr. Cox is survived by one sister, Gladys Langston of Four Oaks; two brothers, Lester Cox of Four Oaks and George Cox of Turkey; several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, John Cox of Four Oaks; a special friend, Marceline Tucker of Goldsboro; and his "adopted grandchildren," Ashley Bunch and Will Bunch of Goldsboro.

Donations in Mr. Cox's memory may be made to Selah Christian Church Building Fund, 3304 Stevens Mill Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
