Agnes S. Barnes, 78, of 1208 Edgerton Street, died Tuesday at Britthaven Nursing Home in Snow Hill.

The funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Jeffrey Simms will officiate. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mrs. Barnes is survived by five sons, Earl Barnes of Virginia, Elton Barnes and Elbert Barnes Jr. of Goldsboro, Charles Barnes of Philadelphia, Pa., and James Ray Barnes of Durham; one daughter, Sandra Barnes Cox of Goldsboro; 11 sisters, Betty Hodges of Newark, N.J, Lula Kirkland of Willingboro, N.J., Melverna Hagans of Philadelphia, Pa., Georginna Lane, Ethele Farmer, Kathrine Holloman, Dorothy Burnes of Lucama, Susan Hooker of Wilson, Julia Thompson of Rocky Mount, Mamie Rice of Virginia, and Eula Sykes of New York; seven brothers, Lugenus Simms, Thomas Hooker and James Hooker of Lucama, James Simms and Jonah Simms of Cliffwood, N.J., Robert Sykes of New York and Eddie Sykes of Kinston; and 25 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; her great-aunt, Luvenia Laneg; and several nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.

The viewing hours will be from 3 until 7 p.m. on Saturday at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, and the family will be present to receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m.
