GORDON JOYNER SR.

MOUNT OLIVE -- Gordon O. Joyner Sr. died Thursday in Rochester, N.Y. He was 101.

He was a former resident of Beautancus and in recent years was the oldest veteran in Duplin County. He was a retired barber, having operated his own barber shop in Morehead City before going to work for Ideal Barber Shop.

He is survived by one son, Gordon O. Joyner Jr. of Carrboro; one daughter, Jane Beeman of New York; one stepdaughter, Carolyn Davis of Arizona; and two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Rose will officiate. Burial will be in the Joyner Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.
