LT. COL VIRGIL CARR JR.

ANNAPOLIS, MD. -- Lt. Col. Virgil Henry Carr Jr., 73, of Annapolis, died Friday.

Formerly of Goldsboro, Mr. Carr was born was born Dec. 15, 1931, in Annapolis to the late Virgil and Maude Whittington Carr. He graduated from Annapolis High School in 1950. Mr. Carr worked for 10 years at O'Berry Center with the mentally and physically handicapped.

Mr. Carr served in the Air Force from Oct. 30, 1954, until Oct. 31, 1974, from which he retired. He was a navigator in the B-52 Bomber, flew over 200 bombing missions in Vietnam and received numerous service medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross.

He was a member of Heritage Baptist Church, where he taught the Exceptional Learners Class in Adult Sunday School.

He is survived by his wife, Esther W. Carr; a stepson, Scott Wagner of Annapolis; a daughter, Annie Carr; and two stepdaughters, Amy Wagner of Annapolis, and Judith of Buckner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a wife, Pun Carr, who died in 1989.

A visitation will be held Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Heritage Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be held 12 noon Tuesday at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Goldsboro.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
