Vera Mae High Thomas, 90, of Goldsboro and formerly of Ansonville, died Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The funeral service will be today at 2 p.m. at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve McLain, the Rev. Mike McDonald and the Rev. Mike Lee officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will greet friends following the service in the fellowship hall of the church.

Mrs. Thomas was born in Anson County on May 16, 1915, a daughter of the late Junius K. and Effie Bailey High. She was a member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church and was retired from the Anson County School System.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Thomas, her son, Joseph Thomas, and her brother and sister, Woodrow High and Geneva Thompson.

Surviving are her children, Ray Thomas and Nancy McNeill both of Goldsboro, Robert Thomas of Kinston and Irma Thomas of Albemarle; her brother, Alvin High of Ansonville; and nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, c/o Joyce Meachum, 2139 Stanback Ferry Ice Plant Road, Wadesboro, N.C., 28170.

The arrangements are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home in Wadesboro.
