Martha Leslie Reuter died on Thursday, Aug. 4.

Born on July 5, 1911, to Mary Leslie and Earl Christian Sorensen in Oconomowoc, Wis., she was an only child raised on the farm that remained in the family for over one-hundred years. She had taught at St. Jerome's Catholic School and Oconomowoc High School and had been active in numerous community activities including politics.

She is survived by her daughter, with whom she was living in Goldsboro, Joanne Lesak and partner Dreamweaver. Daughters Sylvia (James) Barany and Martha Belle Johnson reside in Wisconsin. She had 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren living in North Carolina, Wisconsin and California.

She was preceded in death by grandson Lance Joseph in February 1987, husband Joseph John in June 1994, and son Earl Frederick in January 2005. After Joseph's death she moved to Littleton, North Carolina, before spending her remaining years in Goldsboro.

A family memorial service was held Aug. 10, 2005, in Oconomocwoc, Wisc., where she was buried the following day in the family plot.

Memorial donations may be sent for the Indian pre-school in Santiago, Lake Atitlan, Guatemala, c/o Joanne Lesak, 106 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home served the family.
