Lester L. Pollard, 79, died Friday.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Tarboro with Dr. Lavelle Waters and Rev. Eric Crowe officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Pollard was a WWII veteran, having retired after 32 years with the North Carolina National Guard. He also retired from the Town of Tarboro with 33 years of service. He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church and was a special man who loved his family, his church, his community and his country.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Walker Pollard; his son, Lester Lee Pollard Jr. and wife, Becki of Tarboro; three daughters, Mary Virginia Glidewell and husband, Terry of Greensboro, D.A. Williams and husband, David of Goldsboro, and Judy McCall and husband, Ed of High Point; three brothers, Thomas Pollard of Battleboro, Sam Pollard of Tarboro, and Lynwood Pollard of Carrboro; two sisters, Betty Ann Poindexter of Tarboro and Frances Alexander of King's Mt.; grandchildren, Amy Magrinat and husband, Tommy, Karen Glidewell, Edward Glidewell, Todd Williams & wife, Dannie, Dan Pollard, Summer Pollard, Cameron Pollard, Casey Lafferty; great-grandchildren, Kateland and Autumn Pollard; brother-in-law, Albert Walker of Tarboro; and additional special family, Jimmy, Sandra, Michael, and Eric Harrell.

The family will receive friends this evening from 7 until 9 at Carlisle Funeral Home, Tarboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Edgecombe County Hospice, P.O. Box 100, Tarboro, N.C., or to the Veterans Military Museum, P.O. Box 115, Tarboro, N.C.
