EDWARD MERCER

Died August 11, 2005

Edward Earl "Ed" Mercer, 72, of 129 Saltonstall St. #110, Canandaigua, N.Y., formerly of Kinston, died Thursday at Strong Hospital in Rochester, N.Y.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 through 1960 as a Ship's Serviceman, Third Class and received 2 stars for his Korean Service. He was a retired truck driver with Tidewater Transit and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he served as High Priest.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Efird Mercer; his parents, James Monroe Mercer and Sarah Davis Mercer Bass; his sister, Linda Lee Mercer; and a brother, James Nelson Mercer.

A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Carey Road with Bishop Jeff Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Pinelawn Memorial Park.

He is survived by his daughters, Pamela M. Moody of Deep Run, Patricia M. Nichols of the home; two step-granddaughters; his sister, Barbara Jean Bishop of Goldsboro; his brothers, Lloyd D. Mercer of Madison, Tenn., Charles L. Mercer of Goldsboro, and Bobby G. Mercer of Wake Forest; his aunt, and his uncle.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 until 9 at the Garner Funeral Home, and other times at the home of Mark and Rebecca Jones, 2931 Ravenwood Drive, Kinston.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your local Hospice Service in your area.
