MYRTIE COOKE
Myrtie Ann Ginn Cooke, 72, of SunBridge Nursing Home of Mount Olive, formerly of 423 Frank St., died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital after a long illness with diabetes.
The funeral will be held tonight at 7 at Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist with the Reverends Mike Williams, Willard Hardison and Tim Hopkins officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday in Pikeville Cemetery.
Mrs. Cooke was a native of Wayne County and was the daughter of the late Willie and Annie Newsome Ginn. She was a homemaker and was a member of Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church. In her earlier years she helped her husband in farming and worked in the public school system until declining health forced her to retire.
She enjoyed cooking country food and having her family and friends over. Her specialty was chocolate pies. She also enjoyed yard sales and adding to her doll and tea pot collections.
Her survivors include her husband of 56 years, Otha Donald Cooke; three daughters, Margie Games and husband, Shelton, and Jeanette Howell and husband, Jimmy, all of Goldsboro and Lynn Lancaster and husband, Robin, of Pikeville; one sister, Louise Parks of Goldsboro; five grandchildren, Renee Daw Smith of Savannah, Ga., Bobby Daw of Goldsboro, Derick Games of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., Michelle Edelen of Pikeville, and Chrisanna Mooring of Goldsboro; and six great-grandchildren, Marlie, Macy, Shelby, Matthew, Austin, and Megan.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Laura Ellen Head and Eva Smith, and two brothers, William Ginn and Lee Ginn.
The family will receive friends at the church following the funeral tonight, and at other times at the home of Jeanette and Jimmy Howell, 123 Zeke's Lane off of Stoney Creek Church Road.
Although flowers are welcome, memorial donations may be made to Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, 187 Vance Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
