BILLY RAY NEWSOME

Billy Ray Newsome, 72, of 124 Chris Taylor Lane, died Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Powell officiating. A graveside service will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.

Born in Wayne County, he was the son of John D. Newsome and the late Laulas Smith Newsome. He was preceded in death by two sons, Billy Ray Newsome Jr. and John Keith Newsome. He attended Peace Baptist Church in Calypso, was a former member of the Dudley Volunteer Fire Department and was a retired truck driver with Mercury Motor Express.

In addition to his father, Mr. Newsome is survived by his wife, Margaret Barnett Newsome; two daughters and sons-in-law, Billie Carol and Rex Robbins of Sharpsburg, N.C., Judy Rae and Tim Watts of Goldsboro; stepchildren, Kay and Ken Powell of Calypso, Vickie and Tim Taylor of Albertson, William and Linda Best of Goldsboro, Tracy Best and family of Beautancus, David Best of Mount Olive and Crystal and Donald McCullen of Eureka; two brothers, Eddis Newsome of Wilmington and John William Newsome of Goldsboro; one sister, Novella Zambella of Goldsboro; and six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will greet friends at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home immediately following the service tonight.
