JAMES WHITLEY
WILSON -- James Richard Whitley, 75, died Wednesday.
The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Grace Advent Christian Church. His brother, the Rev. Julius Whitley of Stantonsburg, and the Rev. Dennis Harrell will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Whitley was the son of the late Richard Lee and Elsie Grace Ellis Whitley. He taught in the North Carolina Public Schools for 34 years and was a member of Good News Advent Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and taught an adult Sunday school class for many years.
In addition to his brother, Mr. Whitley is survived by his wife, Marcelle Harrell Whitley; three daughters, Gaye W. Shingleton of Rocky Mount, Rebekah W. Vaughan of Wilmington and Cynthia W. Baldwin of Surf City; another brother, Dr. Lester Whitley of Conway, S.C.; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the church following the service on Friday, and other times at 7029 Gum Pond Road.
