VERDIE GODWIN

BENSON -- Verdie McLamb Godwin, 85, of 607 W. Hale Street, formerly of the Meadow Community, died Tuesday at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield.

A native of Johnston County, she was born on December 15, 1919, to the late David and Lydia Jones McLamb. She was a retired custodian with the Benson Middle School.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Godwin was preceded in death by husbands, Harmon Hardison, David Norris, and Elmore Godwin; her daughter, Dean Hardison Norris; one sister, Grace McLamb Parker; and two brothers, Delbert and Edward McLamb.

Surviving are grandchildren and spouses, Joi and Timothy McLamb of Benson, Candace and Charles Watson of Wake Forest, Sharyn "Spankie" and Eric Wood of Benson, Randy and Terri Norris of Benson; great-grandchildren, Landon Wood, Jackson Wood and Savanna Norris; sisters, Ozeen Longshore of Surf City, Bobbie Dorman of Goldsboro, Ollie Parker of Benson; brother, Wayne McLamb of Benson.

The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Stone's Creek Advent Christian Church. Burial will be in Banner Chapel Church Cemetery. The Reverends Doug Abel and Tom Dorman will officiate.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson, and other times at the home of Joi and Timothy McLamb 583 W. Hale Street, Benson.
