THOMAS E. DAWSON

STANTONSBURG -- Thomas Earl Dawson Sr., of 5625 Hwy 58 North, died Monday at his home following a battle with cancer.

A native of the Stantonsburg community, he was born on Nov. 2, 1933, to the late Thomas Abner and Lucille Futrell Dawson. Following service in the U.S. Army, Mr. Dawson returned to home to Greene County and began to farm. He was very involved in NC Farm Bureau where he had served on the board for many years. A Mason, he was a member of the Joseph Warren Masonic Lodge #92 in Stantonsburg where he had served as Past Master. He also was an active Shriner and was Past President of the Wilson County Shrine Club and Past Captain of the Sudan Horse Patrol.

He was a member Calvary Memorial United Methodist Church, where the funeral will be held on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Rev. Claire Clyburn will officiate. Committal services with Masonic rites will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Snow Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Dawson is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judith Joyner Dawson; children, Lu Dawson Hickey and husband, Brian, of Clayton, Thomas Earl "Tee" Dawson Jr. and wife, Crystal, of Stantonsburg and Beth Dawson Radford and husband, Kris, of Stantonsburg; a sister, Ms. Ginny Dawson Cherry of Mount Olive; and grandchildren, John Taylor Hickey, Christopher Dawson Hickey, Logan Elizabeth Hickey, Thomas Kristopher Radford, Caroline Mackenzie Radford, Thomas Earl "Trey" Dawson, III, and Jeremy Pope Dawson.

The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service Wednesday night, and other times at the residence.

The family prefers that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Calvary Memorial U.M.C., P.O. Box 445, Snow Hill, N.C., 28580; or Sudan Shriners Children's Hospital Fund, P.O. Box 440, New Bern, N.C., 28563-0490.

Funeral arrangements are with Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service in Snow Hill.
