MOUNT OLIVE -- Funeral services for Edward Cornell "Rabbit" Newkirk Jr., 39, of 111 Smith St., will be held Monday at 1 p.m. from the Gospel Light United Holy Church with the Rev. Patricia Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in the Carver Memorial Park.
Newkirk died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He is the son of Eldress Lula W. Newkirk of Mount Olive and the late Edward Cornell Newkirk Sr.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, April H. Newkirk; two sons, Edward Cornell Newkirk III and Jordan D. Newkirk of Warsaw; one daughter, Mirandia Hand of Warsaw; one brother, Timothy Newkirk of Mount Olive; one sister, Rena Spruill of Mount Olive; and one granddaughter.
The viewing will be held today from 5 until 7 p.m. at the Helping Hand Mission, 113 Smith St., Mount Olive.
The family will receive friends at 113 Smith St., Mount Olive.
Garris Funeral Home is serving the family.
