The funeral for Gerald Whitley will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bear Creek Association, 1800 S. Slocumb St., Goldsboro, with the Rev. Arthur Evans Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park N.

Mr. Whitley attended Wayne County Public Schools, graduating from Dillard High School in 1966. He received his college education at St. Augustine's College in Raleigh and East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C. during his professional career, he was a teacher, counselor, coach, consultant, assistant principal, principal and assistant superintendent of human resource services with the Wayne County Public Schools.

Mr. Whitley was a member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and a member of several professional organizations. He served on special commissions and received numerous professional awards.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Carol Simmons Whitley of the home; one son, Jeremy Whitley and wife, Sherry; two daughters, Donishia Platt and husband, Derrick, and Christina Whitley; three grandchildren, four sisters, Bertha Baker and husband, Joseph, Nannie Williams, Linda Holden and Brenda Boseman and husband, Orlander; three brothers, John Whitley and wife, JoAnn, of New York, Edward Whitley and wife, Mary, and Gregory Whitley and wife, Shirley, of Maryland; and one aunt, Rev. Dr. Repsie Warren of Pennsylvania.

The viewing hours will be Friday from 2 until 7 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church on Denmark Street, and the family will receive friends there from 7 until 8 p.m.

Arrangements are being handled by Rhodes Funeral Home, Goldsboro.
