JAMES C. ALLEN

PIKEVILLE -- Mr. James C. Allen, 83, of 110 S. Mill Street, died Monday, July 5, 2004, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A native of Tarheel, North Carolina, Mr. Allen was the son of the late John Fred Allen and Ada Mintz Allen. He was a retired insurance agent with Metropolitan Life with over 30 years of service. Mr. Allen was a charter member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church in Goldsboro where he had served as a deacon. He also attended Pikes Crossroads Pentecostal Holiness Church in Pikeville with his wife, Mary Lee.

A graveside service will be Thursday morning at 10 at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Timothy Creel officiating.

Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Mary Lee Pope Allen; his daughters, Rita Hart and husband, Ned Hart Jr., of Goldsboro, Diane Clifton and husband, Dallas, of Goldsboro and Susie Williams and husband, Ervin, of Greenville; his grandchildren, Jennifer Hart, Brandon Hart and Aaryn Williams; his brothers, Donald Allen of Kansas City, Kan., and Oscar Allen of Philadelphia, Pa; and his sister, Eunice Matheson of Hiddenite, N.C.

He is also survived by his extended family, daughters, Darnell Johnson and husband, Harry, of Goldsboro, Peggy Flowers and husband, Tommy, of Pikeville, and Rachel Wells and husband, Ralph, of Pikeville; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Freddie Allen.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Madison Avenue Baptist Church, 300 S. Madison Ave., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534; or to Pikes Crossroads Pentecostal Holiness Church, 2494 Pikeville-Princeton Road, Pikeville, N.C., 27863.

The family will receive friends at his home, 110 S. Mill Street, Pikeville, N.C., or the home of his daughter, Rita and Ned Hart Jr., 103 Ashley Ave., Goldsboro.

For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand, I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith (II Timothy 4:6-7).
