JAMES LEWIS

James Harvey Lewis, 76, of Stantonsburg, died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A gathering to celebrate his life will be held tonight at 7 in the chapel of Shackleford Funerals and Cremations in Fremont. The Rev. Rose Hicks and the Rev. David Hollowell will officiate. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pikeville Cemetery.

Mr. Lewis was born in Wayne County and was the son of the late Leon and Nora Talton Lewis. He loved bluegrass music and worked for the United States Department of Agriculture for 19 years. He was a member of the Junior Order of the American Mechanics.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Hugh, A.J., and Leon Lewis, and a sister, Avie Wilson.

His survivors include his wife, Leatha Lewis of the home; a son, Jesse Lewis and his wife, Rebecca, of Lake Gaston; a daughter, Donna Lewis-Mayo and her husband, Tommy, of Walstonburg; two grandchildren, Katie Jo and Jessica Lynn Lewis; three sisters, Marjorie Blizzard and her husband, J.D., of Goldsboro, Maggie Moore of Smithfield, and Angie Carraway and her husband, Delbert, of Sanford; and a special niece, Tonya.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service tonight, and other times at the residence.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, 610 Mt. Carmel Church Road, Pikeville, N.C., 27863.
