RUSSELL WILLIAMS

WILSON -- Russell Ross Williams, 78, died Sunday at Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.

He was a native of Wilson County and was the son of the late Margaret Jobe and Russell Lee Williams. He was a a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a former salesman with Life of Virginia, was a Moose Club Steward for 15 years and clubroom manager of Wilson Shrine Club for over 20 years. A 32nd-Degree Scottish Rite Mason, he was a lifetime member of the Wilson County Shrine Club and also was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Moose Legion-Degree of Service, Wilson Masonic Lodge 712, and York Rite Mason.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Mildred Howell Williams; a son, Russell Lee Williams; daughters, Karen W. Tant and Linda W. Etheridge of Wilson; brothers, Don Pridgen of Wilson and bobby Joe Pridgen of Elm City; sisters, Mary Gray Brewer and Jenny Williams of Elm City; and three grandchildren.

A gathering to celebrate his life was to be held today at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Home. Burial was to be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
