SAMIE THORNTON
WILSON -- Samie D. Thornton, 84, died Monday at Wilmed Nursing Center.
He was born on May 5, 1919, in Sampson County and was the son of the late Jack and Vira Joyner Thornton. His wife, Ruth Evans Thornton, died in 2000.
A sister, Carmel Thornton Sutton, and her husband, Thad, of Smithfield survive him.
A gathering to celebrate his life will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park with the Rev. Kenneth Evans officiating.
Arrangements are with Shackleford Funerals and Cremations in Fremont.
