JOHN D. MEDLIN SR.

John D. Medlin, Sr., 80, died Thursday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A native of Hamlet, he was the son of the late Frank L. and Ruby Dawkins Medlin and was married to the late Bobbie Helms Medlin. He graduated from Hamlet High School, served in the Army Air Force Signal Corps in World War II, and retired from Southern Bell. He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, Goldsboro Host Lions Club, Telephone Pioneers and Goldsboro Golf Club.

The funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at St. Luke United Methodist Church with Rev. Earl Dulaney officiating. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.

He is survived by his daughter, Bobbie M. Grose of Burlington; a son, John Medlin Jr. of Falls Church, Va.; three sisters, Marguerite Thornton, Carole Sears and Frankie Zwirblia, all of Goldsboro; and five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC. 27834 or John D. and Bobbie H. Medlin Scholarship Endowment, Office of Planned Giving, Mount Olive College, 634 Henderson Street, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence.
