Man charged for possession of crack cocaine during checkpoint in Fremont

A man was charged with drug possession Thursday after authorities searched his vehicle and allegedly found crack cocaine.
Kelvin Shamon Wells, 34, 158 Beulah Drive, was charged with possession of cocaine, maintaining a vehicle for the sale or use of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
Wayne County Sheriff's Office's Aggressive Criminal Enforcement team was conducting a driver's license traffic checkpoint at the intersection of Nor Wayne School Road and Airport Road Thursday in Fremont when the vehicle that Wells was in pulled up, according to a press release from the sheriff's office.
At the stop, deputies smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, the release said.
Deputies searched the vehicle to find a clear plastic baggie of "suspected crack cocaine" and a baggie of "suspected marijuana."
Wells was arrested and taken to Wayne County Jail and placed under a $3,000 secured bond.
